Kids & Cops Voucher program was started in 2005 as community initiative. United Way of Kitsap County understands not all interactions with police officers are seen as positive and usually come about do to do to an incident in or near the home which can cause an adverse experience for a child that may have been sparked by a traumatic event.
The goal was to get vouchers to police officers and investigators who work or patrol the neighborhoods and seeing a child in need would be able to create a positive interaction with these kids by supplying $25 vouchers to be used for school supplies, clothing, hygiene items or even food. These vouchers to not solve all of their problems but it creates trust with children in need and law enforcement.
This program serves all of Kitsap County and works across all five police departments.
